Toilet Always Running? Fix it Yourself and Save $100!

Friday April 27, 2007
A running toilet is a common problem and is probably due to a leaking flush valve in your tank. This can be annoying and waste a lot of water. And the plumbing repair can be $100 or more if you use a professional plumber. But you're an About.com Home Repair reader so you'll be making this repair yourself for under $10!

In the tutorial Repairing a Leaky Toilet Tank Flush Valve, I'll introduce you to a very easy to use retrofit repair kit made called the "Flusher Fixer" by Fluidmaster. I know, the name's a little goofy, but the product works great. Installing it is easy to do especially if you follow the step by step instructions provided in the tutorial. And the results? A quiet, obedient toilet!

I always try to fix things around the house, as long as I know how to do it, or it doesn’t seem to be that difficult to learn. I do always keep a list of reputable contractors’ numbers handy “just in case” I end up getting in over my head.
