Is there a preferred sequence to follow when painting a room? You bet!
Painting a room can be a lot simpler if you follow a specific order for painting the various components of the room. Do you paint the trim first or the walls? How about the ceiling? Doors before or after walls are painted?
If you want to reduce splatter and rework, then read these quick tips on How to Paint a Room. It will make the task a lot easier for you!

I am a pro painter of 26 yrs. There is a few more items to be listed in your list.
1) empty room as much as possible.
2) cover floor first, so the rest of the coverings lay on top of the floor covering.
3) after removing all wall plates, spackle, and sand any imperfections on wall, ceiling.
4) clean sanding dust.
5) caulk any cracks on wood trim.
6) After caulking has dried, PAINT all wood work.
7) tape, and mask off base boards, tops of headers, wall switches & outlets.
8) prime all spackle spots with a flat latex.
9) brush cut and roll ceiling with paint.
10) brush cut and roll walls.
11) carefully remove masking, put fixtures, wall plates, and the likes back into place.
Just remember, painting is a profession, and it is not always as easy as it sounds.
There are alot more things that one can come across when deciding to do a repaint. Mold, dry rot, chipped paint, damaged wood work, water marks, paint stripping, lead based paints on existing wood work, etc… all that need special attention. Ask questions at a local paint store, they are more than happy to explain any situation you have.
Wow! Great constructive comment and great additional recommendations from a Pro! Thanks so much for sharing some more “inside” information with our readers.
Before I paint, I need to flatten some bubbles in my thin panels– but I don’t want to remove the panels. Water has slightly warped the panels. Could I inject some carpenters’ glue with a syringe and then keep the area secure?
I love to paint and with 5 children have painted many, many times over the years. Even learning a few tips along the way. One helpful hint I started using to save time was that before I painted, I would cover all nail and small holes in the wall with spackle, but I never used a tool as it would apply too much on the wall and then would require sanding and prepping. Instead I used a very small amount on my finger and would push spackle into the hole. I then would take a damp cloth to wipe off any excess around the nail hole. It only takes a minute and is completely invisible when it is painted.
I dont know where to start.. and how long it will take.. I have 2 rooms to paint..should i prime ? should i paint the wall borders same color as they are now(which is the same color of wall).but a little shine to it.. if so, why do i need the blue tape.. and should i leave windows open.. what kind of paint should i use for the interior walls. ?? Thanks.
