If you care about the healthiness of your home's environment, you may already be aware of the harmful effects of VOC's but not aware of several available healthy paint alternatives. In a "Green" home I designed and built a couple years ago I used what I've found to be one of the best alternative paint options available, ceramic paint It's a wonderful product.

In the tutorial Ceramic Wall Paint, I'll explain why this paint is different and how it becomes one of the healthiest paint options for you and your family. You'll want to seriously consider this next time you have a paint job for your home.

Is this the same ceramic paint I was told to use on block walls 25 years ago? I know the stuff I used had ‘elastic ability’ and it covered well unlike latex, but close to oil but almost no smell. The cost was 2x that of other latex and oil paints. As I said all the little holes in the blocks took the paint and color with ease. I don’t recall the state of the primer, if the wall is bare do you need to prime before painting with ceramic?
Thanks

No, this is different. For manufacturers of this product please see http://homerepair.about.com/od/interiorhomerepair/a/cer_pnt_manuf.htm. You may be thinking of Drylok by UGL http://www.ugl.com/drylokMasonry/masonryWaterproofer/latex.php.

Hey thanks, It wasn’t UHO Dry lock, I was a manager at a big blue box store and caught myself up on that product. I was trying to remember when I 1st read up on Dry Lock, was it in 79 when I was salesman for Wards, Home Improvement dept. Ah, no matter, yes the Ceramic stuff we used was a commercial product, I think it was $50 or $60 a gallon. Another thought is, I had always been told Kiltz or Zenser brand cover up primer. Is ceramic good cover for ‘black mold’? Can this be used directly, or is their a primmer to use?

Oh, let me tell you of a fun paint I just used. It was from Dupli-Color and called Mystify, You must use their 3 step process product. You have a base coat, which looks like black primer, the 2nd is the color itself, and 3rd is the clear coat sealer. It say it can be used on most anything. My project was the fiberglass shroud on my wheelchair. It was easy to remove, I placed on top of a rubbish container and my lap. I did the normal 180, 200 and then jumped to 600.I had a smooth almost blemish free shroud. I shot the primer 2 coats, wet sanded with 600 and shot it again wet sanded until I laid down about 6 coats of primer with a final 600 buffing I then shot the color as I had the primer, the acceptation being after 2 coats of color I laid out a stencil of my initials, shot 3 coats of color removed the stencil wet sanded with 600 and laid down 3 more color coats, then the clear top coat same process of wet sanding and spraying. The out come was a fantastic color changing finish! Depending on the light angel and distance you see purple, green. Blue and a mix of those colors! If I can send a photo, I will.!?. It was fun and now I have the only color shift changing wheelchair. Perhaps I will do my desk and see how the interior light escapade works.
