Building Codes and Checklists

Building codes are there for your protection. Although codes may sometimes seem fussy, they are the result of years of experience, testing and real world feedback. They are typically developed by collaboration of independent agencies, quasi and governmental agencies.

However even wanting to comply with codes is often not easy as they can be technical and sometimes even contradictory. This section provides some code resources for you and especially helpful code checklists.

Residential Building Code Checklist
Building codes exist to protect the public's health, safety and welfare. Many home repair projects requiring a contractor must conform to code, but what codes are required? Fortunately one of the best resources I've found for the DIY'er is a series of user friendly, easy to understand and graphically illustrated flipchart checklist booklet written by Code Check and published by Tauton Press.
