PROBLEM: Wall Condensation

Problem: Wall Condensation

Possible Symptom:

  • Mildew.
  • Damp walls.
  • Heavy mustiness smell.
  • Water condensation on window frames, window glass or wall.
Possible Reason:
  • High humidity level in basement from a source such as a dryer vent.
  • High humidity level in basement from big difference in temperature between wall with no vapor barrier and room air.
Possible Solution:
  • Use a dehumidifier to remove water vapor from the basement and dehumidify the air.
  • Air condition the basement which will provide dehumidified air.
  • Insulate basement walls and use a vapor barrier.
