Definition:
The standard cup plunger is a specialized plumbing tool used to break up clogs in drains by the application of suction and the force of water. The standard plunger has a cup-like shape made of rubber and is used to clear clogs in sinks, tubs and showers.

It is ineffective for clogs in toilets due to the unique shape of the toilet bowl. For clogs in a toilet bowl, the use of a ball plunger or flange plunger is required.
