Remove Existing Shower Head

Before you begin installation of your new hand held shower, the first step is to make sure your shower faucets are firmly turned off. Then remove the old shower head using an adjustable wrench. If you look at the existing shower head, you'll notice flat spots on what's called a pipe nipple at the base of the shower head where the head screws into the goose-neck pipe that sticks out of the wall.
  • Take an adjustable wrench and adjust the wrench snugly onto the base of the shower head flat spots.
  • If you are going to reuse the shower head then use a heavy cloth, piece of leather or duct tape between the surface and the adjustable wrenchso as not to mar the finish on the shower head base.
  • Turning counter-clockwise, loosen and remove the old shower head.
  • Clean the threads on the goose-neck of any debris such as old pipe compound or Teflon tape.
