Line Plier Jaws with Duct Tape to Prevent Marring

© Robert Formisano 2006

When using pliers to remove a slip nut on a sink waste trap, removing a shower head, removing a tub spout or any other item where you want to prevent marring of the finish, duct tape can be used to cover the jaws of the pliers and protect the finish, or wrapped around the item itself.
  • When using duct tape to line the jaws of a set of pliers, cut small strips of duct tape to the appropriate length and width of the pliers
  • Use about 3 to 4 layers of tape on each jaw if highly textured like these pliers
  • Use 1 to 2 layers if there are no texture or light texture on the plier jaws.
