Old Caulk Removal Made Easy

Sunday June 1, 2008
Removing old dried caulk from your tub, sink or shower tile has been a difficult job at best. However, a couple of interesting products by 3M® and Homax® will now make short and easy work of the task.

In the tutorial Caulk Removal Made Easy, I describe the water clean-up caulk removing solution made by 3M and the handy manual caulk removal tool made by Homax.

A couple of tips for your toolbox so when you read and follow the popular tutorial How to Caulk Like a Pro, you'll be starting from a clean fresh caulking foundation. And that seals the deal!

Today I bought and used the Homax caulk removal tool and what a terrible disappointment. All it did was scrape at the surface of the old caulk bead I was trying to remove and it snapped in half after 30 mins of use. What a waste of $! Also, if you want to create a nice looking caulk bead, just use your moistened fingertip and don’t waste your money on junk tools.

That’s why in the tutorial I recommend using a chemical caulk remover in conjunction with the plastic caulk remover tool, so you would not have that problem. Old caulk can be a bear to remove.
