Removing a garbage disposal is necessary if you are going to replace a sink or a failed garbage disposal. If you are thinking of replacing your garbage disposal because it is broken, please see my tutorial on Garbage Disposal Troubleshooting first since I get a lot of readers thanking me for saving them from having to replace their disposal after reading this tutorial.

Now, if you still need to remove the disposal, it is very easy and you save some steps if you are replacing it with the exact same model. If not, no problem, I'll explain how to get this thing off!

First, gather some basic tools such as:

  • Screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench or Channellock pliers (tongue and groove pliers)
  • Hacksaw (may be needed)
  • Putty knife
  • Bucket
  • Plastic scouring pad
