At the root of organic lawn care (no pun intended) is the mulching mower. With these mowers there is no reason to continue the environmentally unfriendly practice of bagging lawn clippings and bringing them curbside to be added to our landfills. Now there is a way to cut the grass and feed your lawn.

A mulching mower is rotary mower with a special blade and body designed to cut the grass blade and chop it up into small pieces. The tiny grass clippings are then blown down into the lawn where they help retain soil moisture and provide essential nutrients such as nitrogen to the lawn. Contrary to popular belief, mulching mowers do not cause thatch by leaving tiny grass clippings on the lawn.

Thatch is a layer of dead and slowly decomposing stems and roots. Thatch is most common on lawns with acidic soils and that are very compacted, heavily fertilized and have poor drainage. To break down thatch, aerating the lawn by core aeration is essential.
